Hartford Courant - Connecticut man sues police for shooting at him
Posted on Mar 09 2009
Rocky Hill – A man who pointed a rifle at Rocky Hill police in 2007 is now suing the officers who shot at him, claiming they used excessive force and arrested him without probable cause.
Derek Greenwald, who was not injured in the incident, claims two officers never identified themselves as police and Greenwald never posed any danger to them.
Police went to Greenwald's home on Nov. 9, 2007, on a report by his ex-girlfriend that he was going to shoot himself. Greenwald was later convicted of attempting to assault the two officers.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court last month, also names Police Chief Michael Custer and six other officers. It says Greenwald suffered disabling injuries, including post-traumatic stress disorder.
Custer did not immediately return a message seeking comment Tuesday.
